Orange Caramel(After School)’s songs are not harmful to teenagers

After School and Orange Caramel’s songs are no more harmful to teenagers. The agency of both groups recently won a suit against the Minister of Gender Equality and Family for cancelling the decision on classifying the music videos as harmful to teenagers.

On April 27, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family announced, “The Commission on Youth Protection once deliberated and decided that After School’s “Funky Man” and Orange Caramel’s “Bangkok City” were harmful to teenagers. However, the producer filed a suit against it for cancelling the decision on classifying the music videos as harmful to teenagers, and the Supreme Court ordered us to cancel the decision.”

In July last year, the Commission on Youth Protection, part of the Minister of Gender Equality and Family, classified “Funky Man” from After School’s first album Virgin as harmful to teenagers for the reason that it included some sexual lyrics. In August last year, they classified the music video of Orange Caramel’s “Bangkok City” as harmful to teenagers for the reason that it included some scenes of harmful places for teenagers.

At this, Pledis Entertainment, After School’s agency, filed a suit against the Minister of Gender Equality and Family for cancelling the decision on classifying the music videos as harmful to teenagers at Seoul Administrative Court on October 20 last year and won in March this year.

The official announcement was made about two months after Pledis won the case. The decision on After School’s “Funky Man” and Orange Caramel’s “Bangkok City” was cancelled on April 27.

The court said, “The lyrics of ‘Funky Man’ only imply cheerleaders and are not related to any sexual meanings. The music video of ‘Bangkok City’ doesn’t seem to encourage teenagers to enter or work at places that are harmful to them.”

Pledis Entertainment said, “As the criteria are not objective, some media are once classified as harmful to teenagers and cancelled soon. We hope the classification is made under certain criteria.”

After School are holding a concert called Play Girls in Japan, starting from April 27. Orange Caramel are preparing to release an album in Japan this summer.
