Who says Christmas Eve in Korea is no fun? It was freezing 8 degrees below zero outside, but Daegu was filled with warmth, love and happiness. Thanks to Sungha Jung.
Daegu was one of the lucky cities in Sungha Jung’s 3-City Concert Tour at the same time very special since the performance was during Christmas Eve. From families to couples, loyal fans to fellow young guitarists, people of all ages, everyone decided to spend the special evening with Sungha and his music.
A Korea homegrown guitar prodigy, Sungha never failed to mesmerized the audience with his rendition of songs like “I Remember You,” “Fragile,” and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” His famous ukulele version of Super Mario game soundtrack created another ambiance, inviting laughter, giggles and smiles from the crowd.
Sungha started playing guitar when he was nine but when you watch him perform he will make you forget his age. Aside from playing guitar he is also a prolific composer himself. He already composed about 20 pieces so far. In the concert he played three of these, Irony, Songbird, and a new song he is currently doing. And to keep the Christmas spirit, he also prepared Christmas carols like Jingle Bells and Last Christmas.
His magical interpretation of Korean ballad songs, Snow Flower and The Western Sky gave everyone goose bumps. It was superb and worth a standing ovation. Another hats-off number was with the Korean-American singer, Megan Lee, who had a special appearance in the show. They had a breathtaking performance of Narsha’s I’m in Love and Adele’s Someone Like You.
Before calling it a day, the meet and greet portion made everyone even happier. Sungha may not be part of any idol groups but he totally captured not just the girls’ heart but also many fellow artists’ respect and admiration. Many fans prepared gifts and posters to cheer him up during his performance.
Everyone left the hall with smiles on their faces and photos with Sungha. A splendid Christmas Eve indeed!
