Seoul, Korea – On the 4th, Samsung Electronics held a Galaxy Tab Media Day event and announced the release of the Galaxy Tab (SHW-M180S) on the domestic market. Galaxy Tab is a device that can run programs for reading books and newspapers, watching movies, listening to music, and so on.
Samsung Electronicss strategy is to position this multimedia device as a “Readers Hub” that provides access to newspapers, magazines, and books; e-learning, educational programs, and other content; local-station DMB and VOD content; and life-related content such as navigation and car black box.
The Galaxy Tab has a 7.0-inch high resolution screen, is 11.98mm thick, weighs 386g, and has 3D effects such as turning the page of a book, split-screen functions, and sensitive UI, and supports video chat, Flash, and full websurfing.
It runs on the Android OS and is the first 7.0-inch tablet to have Google certification. Content is provided by Samsung Apps and is divided into five categories aapropriate to the local environment: e-reading, e-learning, multimedia, utilities, and smart work.
For now, Samsung Electronics has loaded the “Reader’s Hub”, which gives access to newspapers, magazines, books, comics, and research material, into its basic package along with video lectures of famous lecturers (Smart Edu, EBS, etc.), language dictionaries, and the ability to download middle school and high school books.
It is designed to be a strategic product, which is apparent from its appearance, its WSVGA (1024×600) display, its light weight and thinness, and its user interface. It is only 11.98mm thick and weight a mere 386 grams, about the same weight as that of a cup of take-out coffee. It is of a size that can be carried in a suit pocket or handbag. Samsung Electronics’ strategy is to aim the Galaxy Tab at the education market.
The device is capable of producing such 3D effects as turning the pages of a book, split-view function when reading email and other documents, a front/rear camera that supports autofocus/panorama/smile shots, self-shots (front camera), and recognizing augmented reality and barcodes.
Size comparison, Galaxy Tab in the middle.
