LG Display yesterday unveiled a five-inch, full high-definition liquid crystal panel for smartphones that it claims has the highest resolution for a mobile panel.
The new panel will enable smartphone users to view full HD content with the same quality as they see in TVs and monitors, the leading LCD producer said yesterday.
With a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, the panel is also 0.5 inches larger, 2.2 times denser in pixels, and 1.3 times more advanced in pixels per inch than its predecessor released last November, which was 4.5 inches.
“As smartphones become increasingly valued for how well they do multimedia and with the rapid growth of LTE enabling faster large file transfers, our new LCD panel is certain to prove a significant asset to the mobile market,” said Yeo Sang-deok, chief technology officer and executive vice president of LG Display.
The display arm of LG Group will start selling the new panel to the market during the second half of the year, and will show it at the Society for Information Display 2012 Display Week in Boston scheduled from upcoming Sunday through June 8.
